Vampire Love Wins: Alex O’Loughlin as Mick St. John

I am so happy about this. I know it’s because of us obsessed faithful Alex fans, but I never thought I’d see the day when my favorite vampire topped a list like this. Click on the pic to go to the site, but if you don’t feel like it, this is what it said:

“TVGuide.com Readers Name the Best TV Couples: 1. Topping readers’ votes, Moonlight‘s Mick and Beth deliver romantic tension you can sink your teeth into.”

Well, this just proves how great the show was. Even years later we can’t get enough of that vamp. And the building romance between Mick and Beth was so amazing. It’s no wonder they are the top couple. (I just can’t tell when this poll was done, if it is newer or older. Didn’t see a date anywhere. Sorry if it’s old news, but it was new–and exciting–to me.) 🙂

I agree with Alex that stories have to be character driven. He pushes for the character side of things even now in Hawaii Five-0. It was that character aspect that drew us into Moonlight. Mick tugged at our hearts because of all he’d been through and all the angst he carried. It’s no wonder Beth fell for him.

Now don’t get me wrong. I love action, too, but if we don’t have characters to pull for then what’s the use. I use this approach when writing. Character first, action second. At least, I try to. I hope it is working like I intend. Hmmm…sounds like something good for a future post.

So tell me why you loved Moonlight.

Interview with the Vampire Bastian

The vampire Bastian Evanko has gone through a lot of heartache, from watching helplessly as his human fiancee, Elise, was beheaded two hundred years ago to spending the last two centuries in exile. Bastian took some time off from plotting his revenge long enough to do this interview–however begrudgingly. Trust me, you don’t want to miss it. Keeping him under control wasn’t easy but I managed to get through the entire thing without becoming his dinner.

The first three books–two of which have already been released–in The Nocturnal Surrender Series focus on Bastian. Even though the books coming up in the series will focus on other couples, Bastian will be there to wreak havoc in their lives on his way to retribution and redemption.

Nocturnal Surrender: Excerpt 3

Nicole relaxed, and to her surprise, tilted her head to offer herself.

Bastian’s stare never wavered from the spot on her neck, though the fierce intensity softened. His gentle demeanor returned. Maybe it had been there all along.

She’d read him wrong, imagined the whole thing. It had simply been her anxiety, and her imagination getting the best of her.

There’s nothing to be afraid of.

He leaned closer, threaded his fingers through her curls, and pulled her to him.

The fine hairs on her skin stood at attention and her pulse quickened once more. Warm lips feathered over her sensitive flesh, his tongue licking a hot trail along her throat.

He unfastened her bra and tossed it to the floor then moved his large hand to massage her breast. A few seconds later, he gently tugged at her nipple.

Moisture pooled between her legs, creating an aching need. If only he would touch her there…

The pressure of his lips on her neck, and when they dipped lower to the upper curve of her breast, made her moan.

Suddenly, she remembered she should be doing something. It was her job to satisfy him, not the other way around. She slid her hands under his shirt. God, those abs.

She teased him, slipping her fingers inside the top of his pants again. He grunted and shifted beneath her, pressing his erection into her rear.

A primal urge took over. Without thinking, she straddled his lap. Grinding on him to the rhythm of the music, she made certain the bulge in his jeans hit the perfect spot.

A small sting at her breast grabbed her attention. He’d grazed her skin with his fangs but thankfully hadn’t drawn blood.

He clutched her hips and helped her keep time with the music—and their moans. His teeth scraped along her throat. Their bodies molded together, and he bit down with a groan.

Update After Surgery

I just wanted to do a quick post to let everyone know how I’m doing. My surgery went well. I only had to stay in the hospital one day longer than expected because I tend to take a little longer getting over the anesthesia than most do. I’ve had some minor problems since coming home—mostly dizziness and weakness, but with the meds and not having had solid foods for over a week, I think that’s to be expected.

I’ll be slowly getting back on the internet over the next few weeks. I still have a lot of posts already lined up from before the surgery. Please keep checking back to see what’s new. Thanks again for all the well-wishes.

Fangs for Friday: Mick St. John

It’s time to roll out another new feature. Say hello to Fangs for Friday. As you may have guessed by the title, from now on, Fridays are all about vampires. Although, just like Hump Day Heat, I don’t intend to do this every week, but I will at least once or twice a month.

These posts will be about different vampires I’ve enjoyed over the years and may also include vampire lore in general at times. If you love vampires, then you’ve come to the right place.

Of course I am starting with my favorite vamp, Mick St. John, as portrayed by—you guessed it—Alex O’Loughlin. Enjoy the pretty and the fangs.

I know, I know. A vampire on the beach. What gives? This was during the brief time Mick lived his dream to be human again. But he gave it up for love. See this post for more info. It was an intense and emotional scene.
